DATA:
For project 3 we need to create some music/ sound and set to imagery - video/ stills. The target length is 2-3 minutes. We need an artist statement - what am I hoping to achieve with this piece? 500 words - doesn't have to be 500 but can be brief but not too long. along with a what did i research section.
Is it possible for art to be original?
Yes you can through a paint bucket at a canvas and call it art. A number of people have done it in the past so it's not an original idea however your will look different to the next person who does it so technically its original.
Intertextuality :
Allusion: An expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly; an indirect or passing reference.
Quotation: A group of words taken from a text or speech and repeated by someone other than the original author or speaker.
Translation: Process of translating words or text from one language into another (or from one context to another).
Pastiche: An artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period.
Parody: An imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect.
Homage: Special honor or respect shown publicly.
(definitions from the Oxford Pocket Dictionary, 2014).
In Pairs pick two definitions and find a movie and music example:
Parody Examples:
Music: weird ail amish paradise
This is a parody of the popular song Gangsters Paradise by Coolio. Its a parody because it uses the same backing track and the lyrics have been twisted to talk about being amish instead of a gangsa.
Spinal Tap is about a band that is paroding famous rock bands of the time. Epic Movie is comprised entirely of references to popular media like XMEN, harry potter and MTV.
Movie: Spinal tap and Epic movie
Pastiche Examples:
Music: Queens "Thing Called Love"
Movie: Pulp fiction
Pastiche means the imitation of another piece of work or artist or time period. Above is two examples of pastiche.
The overall theme I want for this project is happy then transition to scary with a slight use of comedy.
Ideas:
A guy going about his life wearing a vr headset, but it cuts back and forth between the real world and the vr world. He could either be in a fight in vr and its effect on the real world like the pyro short. or he could be normal in the real world but he's in hell in vr.
examples: walking on a sidewalk and it cuts between reality and the hell he's in. goes into a grocery store and reality is fine but in the vr it's a hell scape.
Theme: contrast and abstract, metaverse
Visual Idea:
Guy is walking on a footpath and it cuts to him in vr hell.
He walks past people and it cuts to vr where they are monsters.
He could get in an uber/ taxi and in the vr world he's in a spaceship that takes off.
He could be walking along in vr and runs into something in the real world and it breaks the illusion a little but he gets distracted again.
Hes driving in a car and the vr world he's in a flying car or drifting a different car.
He leans on a counter and in vr he's in a holiday island.
He's walking down the street away from the camera and it wipes to the metaverse.
Reflection:
What have I learned this week? This could be related to soft skills or hard skills.
We learnt about intertextuality and I worked on creating more of an idea for project 3.
What did that involve? Go into more details.
We had to pick two instances of intertextuality and find examples of them in movies and music.
What feedback have I received this week? How am I going to address it?
The idea I have for my project is good and could work.
What challenges did I encounter? How did I/how am I going to address them?
Im struggling to decide on what to do for project 3. And I have no idea how to make music.
