Mixing recap:
Good recordings make good mixing.
Corrective and creative: Corrective is technical and creative is embellishing.
step 0: DAW setup.
step 1: balance: how loud elements are.
step 2: pano: horizontal direction of elements.
step 3: spectral: what frequencies elements are.
step 4: time domain: reverb, delay, echo and distance of elements.
step 5: dynamics: compression, limiting, gating and expanding.
Masking: when instruments frequencies clash
Compressor:
input - output
GR: gain reduction
compression = flattening the dynamic range
K20 = Protools classic: -18dbfs
30min work on the mix and reflect.

What?
What activities have I completed this week?
This week we went over more theory about mixing. We also spent time working on our project 2 mixes and started getting ready for project 3.
So What?
So, what have I learned this week?
We learnt about compressors and what they do and how they work and how to use them to control the dynamic range of a sound. We use some audio as a way to practise using compression so we can actually hear the difference it makes. We also learnt within Pro Tools how to correctly meter using the K20 standard which equals-18Dbfs using Pro Tools classic metering which we were told is our goal to meet when mixing from now on. We learnt about masking which is when instruments frequencies clash and how to use it.
Am I on the right track with this unit?
Project 2 has come along nicely and I want to start working on project 3 now. I still need to go through and work on my learning journals and reflections but I'm focusing more on my projects now.
Now What?
Now what will I do to move forward?
I need to work on project 2 and 3 and continue to look into how Pro Tools metering works as well as compression and look up referencing for how to use it correctly within a mix for things like vocals.
