DATA:
Task was to create a playlist of 5-7 songs that share an emotional idea. Then to figure out whats comonality between the songs and what makes them have the same emotion. The emotion we chose was Sad songs:
Lil peep: Star Shopping
Juice world: All girls are the same
Adele: Someone like you
Iamjakehill: Endless Nightmare
Nickelback: Someday
All girls are like you, Someone like you, Star shopping and Someday are all breakup songs as they are about someone els. Endless nightmare isnt a breakup song but instead of being sad about someone els its being sad about ones self. Besieds Someday a large commonality between all the songs is the use of a piano and an acoustic guitar both mostly in the minor key as well as all the singing/speak is mostly soft. Without the lyrics all the the songs would still sound sad instrumentaly but the lyrics do emphasise the emotion.
Project 3:
In a gorup of 2 or by your self we are tasked with making a piece of music/sound for a video. I get to choose the emotion of the piece but the music has to be produced by me. However the video doesn't have to be but it can be. The project is due in class on week 12.
Music:
Foley is ok but is not the focal point. We're not creating a sound track were making a song/sound for the footage. Contrast in sound is powerfull, for instace a news piece where they talk about someone in a good light but then bam they're not. Doesn't have to be a song but can be a sound scape.
Video:
Don't use film clips, stock footage is ok though. So far my inspiration is the meet the pyro short, spacificaly the scene where someone says "I fear no man but thats thing, it scares me" ang how it flips between the happy world and reality. Could recreate this scene with a videogame team being scared of some one on the enemy team who is so good its too easy for them. Could also use the among us game and show two friends together but the imposter appears.
Alliteratively I could recycle one of my high school short films and make new sound track for it. Or create a new short film based on the Meet the pyro theme usign vr instead of the mask.
The theme starts off happy then sharply transition to scary, or start off happy but show underlining scary shots with a revel at the end.
Research strategy:
Decide whether I want to use a film i've already made or make a new one based on the meet the pyro short and but in the among us game.
For using content i've already made I can use one of the short films I made in highschool or one of my youtube videos. I'll need to watch them and decide which one would best suit a music upgrade and try to find the original files for them, if not just dub over them.
For Meet the pyro I'll look into how the songs and the video are composed. Additionally look for imposter based short films and look at how they introduce the imposter and the payoff at the end. Ill look more into the game and see how I could stage the imposter appearing.
Reflection:
What have I learned this week? This could be related to soft skills or hard skills.
We learnt about what tropes makeup different types of music and the emotional effects they have. I also started coming up with ideas for project 3.
What did that involve? Go into more details.
We researched and found some songs we believed to have a similar emotion. We looked at the similarities between all the songs to find what makes them that emotion.
What feedback have I received this week? How am I going to address it?
My idea for using the Honor and glory short was shut down so I am going back to my original idea of the meet the pyro.
What challenges did I encounter? How did I/how am I going to address them?
Im really struggling to pick an idea for project 3. So far I have three, one of them got shot down, one of them is impractical to film in this weather and the last could be easy to make but I need to research the emotion more.
