We went over normal, punch in and loop recording in protools.
What is mixing?
Mixing is taking recorded tracks and editing them to make a balanced sounding production, and or the creative aspects.
Corrective or creative mixing.
Mix engineer as producer is being creative and mix engineer is a technical engineer.

This week I volunteered at the radio station 101.5 where I was tasked with editing a pre recorded phone call for a news segment that was to be aired 20 minutes later. I also had to edit 7 1 hour long pre recorded sessions ready to be aired over the next month. I had to make sure the vocals were correct and sepereate the sessions into 3 parts so the streaming softwear can re insert different advertisement blocks.

What?
What activities have I completed this week?
This week we did a refresher on normal, punch in and loop recordings within Pro Tools. We were asked some questions about what is mixing and what corrective or creative mixing is. We went over the difference between delineated verse conflated studios and processes. Today is very theory based day and I was more absorbed in the learning and forgot to write chunks of it. This week outside of class I volunteered for two days at a local radio station. While at the station I was tasked with editing a pre recorded phone call for a news segment that was aired 20 minutes later as well as I worked on some rerecorded shows that were to be played that night and set them up ready for the software to play them out.
So What?
So, what have I learned this week?
This week we learned about what delineated studio is compared to what I conflated process is and we were given in a book to read about creative verse corrective mixing and what it means to be a creative mix engineer and a technical engineer. We learned more about normal recording, punching recording and loop recording within Pro Tools and how and where they would be used. We learned how to use reverbed to creates spatiality in a mix and how you can use it to make elements sound further away from the listener.
Am I on the right track with this unit?
Again I still need to work on my reflection to my learning journals I have been slacking off a little bit with writing into them and more just absorbing what's happening in class but theory wise I think I'm on the right track. I am enjoying learning more detail about things like reverb and speciality as well as industry practises like delineated studios.
Now What?
Now what will I do to move forward?
I want to research more into speciality using reverb effects and panning to position elements within a mix and I'm going to continue volunteering at the radio station so I can build up in industry experience.
