Question one - What Is Sound
Frequency range our ears pick up, human hearing is 20hz - 20khz, db is decibels, Sound is energy, All energy has a frequency, Energy in air is sound, entrains noise.
sound description 1 Wind gong - gong, long mid to high frequency tone.
sound description 2 Tibetan singing bowl- church bells, sounded inviting like an event was about to commence, very long mid to high frequency tone, could possibly be heard form a ery long distance.
sound description 3 Crystal singing bowl - long droning sound, like a battle has ended, mid to low frequency tone, very loud, could possibly be heard form a very long distance. it sounded loud even at a the other end of the room.
sound description 4 large gong - Much larger gong, deeper sounding, mid to low frequency tone, i can feel it reverberating the desk and my body. will be heard from a long distance, sounds like a warning gong.
home task - get familiar with all the resauces, complete AUD175 week 1, then the pre work for week 2
What?
This week I met my class mates and the lecturer for AUD175. We were shown a number of resources to aid our research for this course, including David's blog/ Linkedin learning and google scholar. We ran through the course outline and how its structured. I set up my learning journal/ google drive and completed the online Questionnaire. I also read through the google slide outlining the first project of this term and an explanation of sound vibrations. In class we were asked to describe the sound from 4 different instruments (Wind gong, Tibetan singing bowl, Crystal singing bowl, large gong).
So What?
We learnt that sound is a form of energy, in this instance sound is pressure waves that move through the air. Sound is measured in db (decibels) and frequency which is measured in hertz. we also learnt the frequency rang of human hearing is 20hz to 20khz.
What am I unsure about?
On the Unit Website it says in class we needed to group up in pairs to research 3 audio terms in the library and to do a frequency match with the person next to us on the computers, we didn't do these in our first lesson and I'm not sure if I should do them solo or if we will be doing them in the next class.
