What?
What activities have I completed this week?
Due to the campus still being flooded in we had a zoom meeting with David for six hours where we went over what we would have done in class which was learning about microphones and our project 2.
So What?
So, what have I learned this week?
This week we learned about project 2 and its criteria along with how to make a pre production plan and what's needed to pass. We learned about overdubbing which is where you punch into recording which is where you record over the top of a recording. We learned about microphones and their three categories condenser. dynamic and another. We learned about the differences between passive and active ribbon microphones and what 48 volts phantom power is. We also learned basics of microphone placement and how to mic them in different scenarios i.e for drums, vocals and guitars. We also learned about mono micing and stereo micing using spaced pairs or XY configurations.
Am I on the right track with this unit?
The entire time we were in the zoom call David was talking about microphones and I was very close to opening the cupboard behind me in pulling out the six I have sitting in there. I use this class as a refresher on mic placement mostly to hear how to properly do it as I have been teaching myself about microphones for the past four or five years.
Now What?
Now what will I do to move forward?
I wanna find some YouTube videos about how to set up drum kits and mic them along with what microphones to use for them. I want to research more about microphones that I could potentially buy in the future. I need to start working on project 1 and finalise a time to record along with start thinking about what i'm going to do for project 2.
